Extreme Mountain Biking

Do You Have What it Takes for Extreme Mountain Biking?

This is not for the faint at heart.

But if you love adrenaline this is for you!

A wild twist on traditional mt. biking, extreme mountain biking is an incredible adventure for those who are daring enough to try out dangerous new terrains. It requires patience, endurance and speed, practice and dedication. But the rewards are incredible.

My extreme mt. biking comes in the form of how far I ride. In Primal Quest Badlands we rode 205 miles. True extreme mt. biking comes with pushing the limits on mt. biking playgrounds, flying downhill and doing incredible jumps.

Top Speed Mountain Biking

When you are looking into extreme mt. biking for the first time, there are a few things that you should be prepared for. For one, break neck speeds are almost an imperative part of the game.

If you couldn't potentially injure yourself going that fast then the extreme mt. biking that you are doing is not extreme enough; at least in the eyes of mountain biking enthusiasts all over the nation who eat, breathe, and live this sport.

Also, expect crazier trails than you ever thought possible. This means tiny little areas where you will be forced to ride a thin, narrow line.

Dense brush, mud, sand, steep inclines or bad brush—expect it when it comes to the extreme version of this sport.

If You Want to Get Involved

If you are thinking about getting involved in extreme mt. biking, there are a couple of things that you should keep in mind.

First of all, get some experience on your mountain bike. Read up on mountain biking skills. Get your bike up to par as it would have to be for extreme biking and get a real feel and comfort level for your bike. Just playing on your bike at home, jumping over curbs, riding over obstacles will help a lot for when you hit the trail.

This will definitely make a difference when it comes to the real thing, because you will have practiced with your bike in that condition and have complete mastery and control over what happens. If you hit a bump or a slope, you know just how to react with your bike. With a new bike, such a problem may prove disastrous.

There is no doubt about the fact that extreme mountain biking is extremely risky. But with great risk comes great fun.

Talking to those involved and riding with some locals can help get your started. You can also learn some skills to get your started with this excellent book recommended by Xterra racing.
